I’ve recently become a huge fan of knives made by Cary. I started out by coming across his Woodlore clone with an Osage handle. It was just what I was looking for and it was listed as available. I was pleased with its simple lines and beauty. Looking forward to the Osage to change with age to a rich honey color. Paired with a handmade custom sheath, it a beautiful piece. I was so pleased with my first knife from Cary that I asked him to make a set of his “Little Guy” knives for my son and me. In the meantime a Custom Choke Up Utility knife became available and I couldn’t resist…l looked at it often on his website and just had to have it in my collection. It’s just a stunning knife with etched blade and Buckeye Burl handle. The horizontal custom sheath and practical sharpening device round out a practical EDC knife that’s functional and beautifully crafted. Picked up this Fancy Drop Point Hunter with Horsehair Pull. The Box Elder handle with red jade spacer and copper bolster was every combination of components that appeals to me in a knife. I knew it’d have a similar look to the Little Guy I was having made, but a bit larger. It’s really a work of art, everything about it appeals to me and I’m very pleased to have it to admire and use. Well, the two “Little Guy’s” that Cary crafted for my son and me are exquisite, both different in color and handle materials but just what we wanted. The 6-8 week wait went by quickly and was worth every minute. This knife has become my favorite carry knife in its horizontal sheath with Horsehair Pull. I plan on bringing it to Africa on an upcoming hunt and putting it to good use. With its sharpening system, provided with purchase, it’s the complete package. Practical, beautiful and us, I look forward to carrying it for many years to come. Overall… C. Thomas knives appeal to me in every aspect. The quality and workmanship is second to none. He offers a wide variety of knife choices and will work with you to achieve just what you’re looking for. His style of knives are versatile and practical for EDC and/or admiring up on the shelf. I received the knife today and it is lovely and strong, and the blue maple burl is even more beautiful than it appeared in the pictures. I immediately put it to work making a frittata and did literally all the cutting work with it to see what it was capable of. I pared and cubed sweet potatoes, diced shallot and onion, minced garlic, sliced tomatoes and peppers and chopped arugula and cilantro. It handled all of this perfectly - it is surprisingly nimble for such a heavy guy. It has the great quality of being truly lovely to look at while also being a no-nonsense workhorse. I don't have to baby the blade because it is already weathered and battle-scarred. Thanks for the knife... I look forward to many years with it. I've never used a strop before but I will study up so I can keep it sharp.    Regards   , E. Z.

Hi Cary,  My neighbor called last week wanting help taking care of a bull elk (black powder). I gutted, skinned, cut off head and legs. The knife arrived today, came straight through with no delays.  I think it looks terrific and I am very happy with it.  The redwood handle looks very nice, I like the abstract etched design on the blade, the incised area on the back of the blade looks good and is functional.  The sheath looks great and is a good appearance match for the knife. Hope all is going well for you!  I bought a 6.5" custom chefs knife (rosewood) from you in June. The knife is wonderful and I have loved working with it!  When I was drying the knife a couple of weeks ago, I dropped it and the tip of the blade curved. I was very upset with myself since I am very very careful with knives. I'm attaching a picture and am wondering if you can repair it and sharpen as well. I know sharpening is free if I mail it to you, but how much would this repair cost? I'm attaching pictures but would be happy to go on a zoom call to show you if the pictures don't do it justice.       J. Eler

Quick report on the 10” chefs knife you made for me last year. At first I was skeptical about the flare at the front of the handle because I use a blade-pinch when cutting (thumb and trigger finger) but I quickly learned to very much like it. Love it, now. The convex configuration you grind into your blades is a big winner. I don’t understand why everyone doesn’t do that. I use your knife more than all of my other kitchen knives put together yet I sharpen it 1/3 as often (and I keep all of my knives very sharp). The beauty of the knife garners lots of comments. I received the knife yesterday.  It's superb.  Really really well crafted and fits the hand like a glove.  This might be the nicest of the 3 I've got from you.  I looked for the information about the build about the other 2 knives I purchased in the past but couldn't find them.  One is a custom drop point, 8670 steel, handle Bocote with water buffalo spacer? Cary I really like this little knife! Love the sheath to. The sharpening system you've got is so slick, a few strokes every now an then an it shaves hair off my arm every time. I've had several people compliment on it. What are the burls or tiger stripes in the steel? I'll be ordering another one similar with an antler handle one of these days. Just want to say again how much I appreciate the fine craftsmanship and attention to detail that went in to manifesting my frontier sheath. You, and your son did a masterpiece for me. Previously purchased this knife and it’s my go to knife. In fact I need a second one. I thought about getting the camp knife but I really don’t need the sheath and I’m assuming that’s the added cost in it over the chef knife. Let me know how to send payment and I will send mailing address. Thanks for the awesome knife I already own and looking forward to the second one. Didn’t mean any disrespect to him. He is definitely a great maker but his knives are very delicate and just not a great fit for the average kitchen use. I admire his knives and if your a sushi chef maybe they are great but I can get just as good of an edge on your knife that will hold longer and easier to bring back with a few strokes on the strop. I don’t think I own another knife that takes a better edge and I can cut anything with it that I can with a sushi knife and then turn around and cut up a deer quarter. Morning CT, Just got home late last night. My neighbor had signed for that 'so called blade you call a knife'....Opened it up like a little kid, early Christmas morning. It's wonderful! It's beautiful !! It really came out exceptional. Love the proportions, the balance, the way it feels in my hand ……!  Bravo, my friend. Also, the etching on the blade, is very different. Cary, Received the camp knife and it’s everything I thought it would be and it’s actually a perfect fit for my hands.  It’s like you custom fit it for my hands..!  I love it and I’m very happy with it.I would like to proceed with the larger version of this knife between 9-10 inch’s and a little more file work on the spine would be nice too, that adds to the custom touch.  I will send you $250.00 if that is acceptable to get in the production line for this build. I need to tell you about the copper guarded knife you sent. We were at ranch cleaning deer, I gave that knife to my cousin, so a guest pulled out some custom Bowie he was bragging about. Took a swipe at a deer quarter, hit a piece of bone and dam near took his leg off, my cousin pulled out that copper knife you built, he is 140lbs soaking wet, pulled that blade and in one motion hit that deer carcass, it was like a laser, half that deer hit the floor. Hi Cary, The knife is pretty damn spectacular! Very pleased. The profile is very similar to the Z Kramer 6" Chefs. I like the blade width, keeps my knuckles safe. It is a nice contrast to my Rodrigue mid-tech 240. Will probably snag one of your camp/chefs profile knives at some point. I've been in the market for a nakiri and this might be better. My wife and i have purchased a number of knives from you over the last few years - primarily as wedding gifts (all of our friends have loved them). I am interested in getting my wife a chef's knife or camp knife for Christmas. I like the Chef's/Camp knife and the Slicer Dicer knife that you currently have on your website - but i was wondering if you had any others made that are not up yet? My wife really likes the raised/peened copper pins in the handle and likes handles that have a lot of contrast and interest. By the way - my dad also loves his neck knife. I received my new blade as advertised and celebrated my final day working for the fed. govt. by opening the box. WOW! That's the one I have been looking for, for what seems like forever. From tip to butt, it is simply cool and the spalted scales set it off perfectly. I wasn't expecting the level of handle contour, it fits my hand perfectly. I have been using it around the house and wood shop. Works good in the kitchen too. I used it this weekend to help get the campfire going and to cut the meat out of grilled oysters. Friends were VERY impressed with the fit, finish and obvious quality of your work. I use a strop on my chip carving knives and agree with you that it is a great way to keep a keen edge on the blade. It truly is scary sharp and I'm not looking forward to getting bit someday. I wish you all the success that you deserve. Just wanted to touch base with you about my knives. Honestly, I was worried when they first arrived. I'm a big man, 6'3 200, and the 6" chef was smaller than what I'm used to. After using them a few times it was still awkward. BUT I used them at an event for 500ppl last night and fell in love. The weight, shape of the blade, the way the beefy handle fit into my hand, and of course the SHARPNESS is outstanding!! Everyone that saw them commented how beautiful they were. Hi Cary I bought my first knife from you through the Esty website about four years ago, the Drop Point Hunter with the Purple Heart handle. It is very well made in all aspects of a handmade knife. It holds an edge extremely well, and is very comfortable in the hand while being used for long periods of time. I have used it on sixteen Deer, two Steers, and one Cow since buying the knife and love it, so those are just a couple of reasons why I wish to purchase many more of the knives you make. I wanted to send a quick note to let you know I love the knife you made me. I was taught at a young age the value of quality tools, your knives are definitely part of that category. There are a lot of mass produced tools out there, including knives. I have found that whenever I have compromised in the area of quality in order to save a few bucks I have quickly regretted it. Using quality tools not only make the task easier but also much more enjoyable.
I took a backpacking trip recently with my boys, we hiked into the staircase area of the Olympic National Park. I brought along your knife and put it to use for the first time. I used it for some fairly heavy work as well as fine carving, it worked great for everything I needed it for. Its a good knife for all around use and because of the design of the handle it feels great in the hand even after hours of use. I have since taken it on several other trips and am very pleased with how it functions. The blade is a great thickness and weight, and the edge has been amazing! I can’t believe how well it takes and holds an edge.
Thanks again for a beautiful piece of craftsmanship! I am looking forward to many years of use, and to someday passing it along to one of my boys.

  I purchased my first CTKnives Chef's knife a couple years ago. It is the best knife in our kitchen. We have several very expensive Japanese knifes that we are used to using. The other day, I was cutting some fat out of a steak when I switched to my CTKnives knife and the difference was amazing.   Dear Cary, I wanted to send you a short  note and commend  you on the quality of your knives. I have been in the Big game Outfitting Business for 30 plus years and have tried and discarded many kinds of different knives, both  handmade and mass produced. I can proudly and happily  say  no maker compares to yours for usability, handling , edge construction and just all around good workability. My  favorite knife is the “ Top Drawer Hunter/Skinner” with the canvas micarta handle. The handle is unique in that when it becomes soiled with blood or water it continues to be able to grip. My sons, who guide for me,  love the smaller “Utility /Hunter”  with the canvas micarta handle. I can not brag enough about the way they hold an edge. Most knives require several sharpening to complete the task of skinning and dressing an elk.  I have had the pleasure of doing an entire elk  without sharpening  and an entire  moose without sharpening.

  Hey  Cary, I’m really enjoying the (6in. Chefs) knife. It’s still shaving sharp. I use it  pretty much everyday. The strop keeps it sharp and it holds the edge for quite a while.
